A Visit to See A Few Old Bears or (Senior Bears!)

Yesterday Tadley Bear had a trip to the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green which is part of the Victoria and Albert Museum. He thoroughly enjoyed seeing all sorts of characters but was a bit worried that they seemed to live behind glass. He decided it was well worth a visit especially as it was free.

Tadley's Surprise in the Woods

Tadley Bear went for a hike at the Vyne Woods in Hampshire. He was amazed to see that the woodland floor was now carpeted with Bluebells. He found a little path that led through them and followed it all the way along. A little portion of a poem that he had seen by Anne Bronte came into his mind.

"O, that lone flower recalled to me
My happy childhood's hours
When bluebells seemed like fairy gifts
A prize among the flowers,"

Tadley Plays Golf

As there was finally some sunshine this morning, Tadley Bear felt like a game of golf. He popped on his "Wentworth" jumper, slung his golf bag over his shoulder and hurried off to the golf course.

Tadley steps up and takes a shot. "Hmm! This grass is a bit long" he thinks and wonders what the rough is like.

Tadley's shot hits a tree but with the next shot he manages to get it onto the green and putts it into the hole.

Tadley Bear did so well in his game of golf that he had his photo taken to celebrate the occasion and took it home to put on the wall
"To some golfers, the greatest handicap is the ability to add correctly"

HAPPY ST GEORGE'S DAY

Happy St George's Day from Tadley Bear.

Friday, 11 April 2008

Tadley Bear had a great time flying over Goring although he was BEARLY able to see over the control panel. After he had landed he was told this joke by the ground crew, but he bearly found it funny.
Ground Control: "123DG, bear to the left, disabled aircraft on the right."
Pilot: "123DG, Roger, I have the disabled aircraft in sight, but I dont see the bear yet."

TADLEY'S FIRST FLIGHT

Tadley Bear is a very nervous as he is going to have flying lessons. While waiting for his instructor he found this list of technical problems with the planes and the responses from the maintenance crews. After reading it he didn't know whether to carry on with his lesson, but he is a very brave bear so is going to. "The flying world is unBEARlievable", thought Tadley Bear.

Tadley's Recycling Mystery

Tadley Bear went to put some tins in the bins for recycling today and had this strange feeling that he was being watched. He looked round and round but eventually decided that it was RUBBISH. "Everything certainly feels mysterious in the snow," thought Tadley Bear.

SNOW FOR TADLEY

After an enormous clap of thunder, Tadley Bear rushed to look out of the window. He was amazed to see the world had turned white.
He put on his thickest jumper and went outside.

He rushed up to the Tulips, where he had found the Easter eggs on Easter day and was amazed to see it now. "Well," thought Tadley Bear, "Life is full of surpises!"

Friday, 4 April 2008

After reading the story of Winnie The Pooh, Tadley Bear gradually got the urge for a little smackeral of something for elevenses. That little something happened to be HONEY. Tadley wasn't sure where to find some so he disguised himself as a ladybird, and climbed onto a flower to wait for a bee to come along. The disguise was necessary as he had read about bees and bears in Winnie the Pooh and didn't want to be stung. "Hello honey" buzzed a friendly bee, "What are you doing? Waiting for a BUZZ?" Tadley explained that he was doing a bee survey and could he ask a few questions.

What TV station do you watch most? BEE BEE See One

Where do you go on holiday? STING a pore.

Who is your favouirte composer? BEE-thoven.

Who is your favourite author? BEE-trix Potter.

What vitamins you take? Vitamin BEE

Who is your favourite artist? Pablo BEEcasso

What is your favourite flower? BEEgonia

Finally Tadley asked where the best place was to get some honey. After a long explanation about pollen and bees he told Tadley to pop to the supermarket and buzzed off happily. Tadley quickly changed his clothes and popped out to the shops.

Tadley Bear Fashion Advice for Bears

From Tadley Bear's sad beginnings of living in a crowded box in a charity shop in Tadley, he has finally been recognised as being a bit of a fashion icon. It has been noticed what a smart bear he is, always dressed appropriately for the occasion and therefore he has been featured on the cover of,"Style Magazine". Although he is not a vain bear, he is happy to give fashion advice to any other bears who have style problems, as he fancies himself as a bit of a "Trinny and Susana". He is thinking about writing a book called, "What Not to Wear for Bears!" For any bears who come for fashion help he promises not to make them strip down to their undies and poke their tummies!

TRIUMPHANT TEDDY BEAR FINDS EGGS

After days of searching high and low along the hedgerows in Tadley, Tadley bear finally found a small Easter Egg hiding beneath some daffodils. His joy knew no bounds.

Then he was amazed to find an even bigger egg hiding beneath some leaves. It was quite hard for a small bear to lift, but he managed to carry it home.

Tadley Bear looked at all his chocolate and remembered the true meaning of Easter; a time filled with new life, sacrifice, hope and love, so he found all his bear friends and they shared the delicious Easter Eggs together. Tadley Bear does love HOPPY- endings.

Tadley Bear's Rabbit Mystery

After Tadley's unsuccessful hunt for Easter Eggs yesterday he set out with fresh resolve today. He was determined to find an egg, so put on his special explorers hat and went out full of EGGS-pectation. He didn't find any eggs but kept getting this strange sensation that he was being followed. Finally he turned around and there were three little rabbits looking a bit sad.

"How did you get here?" he asked.

"We came by HARE-plane" they all replied.

"Why are you all looking so sad?" asked Tadley, "Are you having a bad-HARE day? Do you need to borrow a HARE-brush?"

"No," said the rabbits, "We are looking for rabbit supplies from THE HAY EXPERTS , and we can't find it."

"Don't worry," said Tadley Bear kindly, "It's very near here in Tadley, just a few houses away. I can show you how to get there."

Forgetting all about Easter Eggs Tadley Bear led the three little rabbits to, THE HAY EXPERTS where they could get their supplies and then went on his way. At the last minute he called out to the last little rabbit, "What's your name?" The little rabbit turned and called out,

"Esther."

"Esther what?"

"ESTHER BUNNY!"
The three little rabbits found just what they needed and they all lived HOPPILY ever after.

Tadley Bear's Easter Egg Endeavours

Tadley Bear heard about Easter Egg Hunts for the first time this week and found out that on Easter Sunday you can find eggs hidden behind trees and under bushes. He decided that he had better get a head start as he only has little legs, so has been wandering around Tadley Village peering wistfully under leaves hoping to find an early egg. He hasn't found any yet but never mind, he is getting plenty of EGGS-ercise!
Why did the easter egg hide?
He was a little chicken!

COURGETTE CAPERS

Tadley Bear couldn't believe his little teddy bear eyes this morning. When he went out to check his vegetables he found that the courgettes plants had grown enormous yellow flowers. He peered in very carefully as he's read, "The Day of the Triffids" recently and wonders if it's a fiendish plot for courgettes to take over the world!

TADLEY BEAR'S STRAWBERRY TRIUMPH

Tadley Bear triumphs over the birds and slugs and finally picks the first red strawberry. After he tastes it he knows he agrees with the quote of William Butler, (1535-1618),
"Doubtless God could have made a better berry, but doubtless God never did."

GUARDING THE STRAWBERRIES

Tadley Bear is waiting for the strawberries to turn red. He knows that it will be a race between himself, the birds and the slugs to get the first red strawberry, so he is keeping a close eye on them. If only he had a cow to make some cream!
"Why did the baby strawberry cry?"
"Because it's mother was stuck in a jam!"

Tadley Bear has an exciting time having a look at the vegetables that are growing. He feels very "international" walking around the Swiss Chard and French Beans. He stops to look at the tomato plant but can't see any tomatoes yet.
"Why did the tomato turn red?"
"Because it saw the salad dressing."

TADLEY BEAR BASKS IN THE SUN

After all the digging Tadley Bear did in the vegetable patch he lies down for a rest next to the pool that he shares with the birds. He can't wait for his vegetables to grow. He made sure that he put his sun screen on first, but it does get a bit sticky in the old fur!

Tadley Bear Digs for Victory!

Tadley Bear has been a very busy bear this week, preparing the ground for a vegetable patch. It has been such hard work that his friend Bramley the Bear came to help. Tadley did the digging and Bramley did the raking. Tadley wondered how far he would have to dig to reach Australia, as he has always wanted to see a Koala Bear. It is hard work but it helps to think about all the lovely vegetables that he will be able to eat.

Tadley Bear was asked by the local community website, the "Tadley Roundabout" to supply photographs for a competition run by them. TADLEY BEAR'S SATURDAY SPORTS PAGE - CLIMBING

Tadley Bear found this very old clipping of his Great, Great Uncle Boris demonstrating his climbing prowess. Tadley Bear is very impressed and is hoping to take up climbing himself.

A little old lady, who lived on the third floor of a block of flats broke her leg. As the doctor put the cast on he warned the old lady not to climb any stairs. Eight weeks later the doctor took off the cast. "Can I climb the stairs now?" asked the old lady. "Yes,"he replied. "Thank goodness," she sighed, "I'm sick and tired of shinnying up that drainpipe!"

TADLEY BEAR'S THOUGHT FOR SUNDAY

CHILD'S EVENING PRAYER
I hear no voice, I feel no touch,
I see no glory bright:
But yet I know that God is near,
In darkness as in light.
He watches ever by my side,
And hears my whispered prayer:
The Father for His little child,
Both night and day does care.

TADLEY BEAR "SINGING IN THE RAIN"

Tadley's singing in the rain, and playing in the rain.
Wearing his raincoat, he's feeling quite vain.
He's laughing at clouds, so dark up above,
The sun's in his heart, with the flowers he loves.
He digs at a pace, moving weeds from the place,
"Come out little crocus, with a smile on your face!"
He works with a grin, 'til it's time to go in.
Tadley's singing and gardening in the rain!

Tadley Bear was very excited today to get an e-mail from Bruno in Berlin, ("The Teddy Bear Hall of Fame") telling him about a Polar Bear cub, in the Berlin Zoo, called Knut. His mother, Tosca, sadly couldn't look after him so he has been adopted by a nursing-human for polar bears. A News paper in Berlin has been showing photos of him in their online gallery and Tadley Bear thinks that they are some of the sweetest photos that he has seen.

TADLEY BEAR'S CANAL CAPERS

After visiting the canals of Venice, Tadley Bear decided that he would have a little wander by the Kennet and Avon Canal near Aldermaston. He stopped at the Visitor Centre for a drink. What drink does a Teddy Bear drink?Koca-Koala of course!

TADLEY BEAR VISITS OLD FRIENDS

Tadley Bear went back to, "Annie's International" Charity Shop in Tadley and visited some of the Teddy Bears there who are still waiting for a new home. He was so concerned that he has set up an, "Adoption Page" in the hope that some kind people will go to the shop to adopt a bear.
The adoption, "processing fee", is 50p or £1, depending on the size of the bear and the proceeds go to help orphaned humans, living in orphanages, living on the streets, or who are children of prisoners, in Africa, Rumania, South India, Burma and the Philippines. Why not pop in and adopt a bear?

TADLEY BEAR , FENCE REPAIR

In the gales of last week, the old fence where Tadley Bear lives blew down. He rang Duncan from, "ANGELWOOD - Garden Landscape and Design," and asked how easy it would be to sort out the damage from the wind. Duncan said, "It's a breeze!"

Duncan put up a wonderful new fence, and left the garden neater than when he began. Tadley Bear sat in a tree, at a safe distance, and watched Duncan put the fence up in a very awkward corner of the garden.

Tadley Bear considered painting a picture of the fence blowing down in the gales, for his art gallery, and wondered what colours he should use. "I know", thought Tadley, "I'll paint the sun rose and the wind blue!"

TADLEY BEAR MAKES A SNOWBEAR

Tadley enjoyed making a snowbear in the garden, although it's ears did have a tendency to drop off. He was going to put a hat on it's head but he didn't have any ice-caps. He did, however, bring an ice-berger out for the snowbear's lunch.

TADLEY BEAR'S FIRST SNOW

Tadley Bear had a big surprise this morning. When he opened the curtains he saw that the garden was covered in snow. He put on his warm coat,(that the lady in the, "The St Michael's Hospice Shop", had found him), and rushed out to play.

After being told that he looked like an Eskimo in his new coat, Tadley Bear said,

"What is an Ig?"

"An Eskimo's home without a loo!"

"What do you call an Eskimo cow?"

"An EskiMOO."

He chuckled to himself, and went off to build a Snow Bear.

TADLEY BEAR PAINTS A PICTURE

As Tadley Bear was feeling lonely yesterday he had his friend, Archie, round for a visit and to paint his picture. He observed Archie very carefully, to paint a good portrait. Send a photo to the, "Teddy Bear's Hall of Fame" as Tadley is hoping to see photographs of other people's Bears.

TADLEY BEAR SEES A LIVE BEAR WEB CAM

Tadley Bear has been missing his friends, that he shared a box with, while he was waiting for re-homing. He was very happy, though, to see that he could watch two orphaned, grizzly bears, called Grinder and Coola, from Vancouver, on a live web cam. At the moment they are hibernating, but Tadley Bear found out that, hibernating bears do move sometimes. Tadley Bear send his greetings to everyone in Vancouver.

If you're a bear, you get to hibernate. You do nothing for six months.
I could deal with that.
Before you hibernate, you're supposed to eat yourself stupid.
I could deal with that too.
If you are a bear, you birth your children, (who are the size of walnuts), while you're sleeping and wake to partially grown, but cuddly cubs,
I could definitely deal with that.
If you are a mama bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too.
I could deal with that.
If you are a bear, your mate expects that you will wake up growling. He expects that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.
Yup , I want to be a bear.

TADLEY BEAR'S ROMAN JOKES

Tadley Bear sat on the Roman Walls telling Roman jokes. He was reported to have said,

Why didn't the Romans build straight Roads?
So their soldiers didn't go round the bend.

What is a forum?
Two-um plus two-um.

Why didn't the Romans find algebra very challenging?
Because X was always 10.

A witness by the Roman walls commented, "These jokes were unBEARable!"

TADLEY BEAR DISCOVERS THE ROMAN WALLS

Tadley Bear was very excited to find the Roman walls at Silchester. He climbed over a stile and then walked around to where the Roman town had been. He wonders why the Romans abandoned the settlement, but was very pleased not to meet any Romans with swords. He did meet a lot of suspicious looking dogs though!
Tadley Bear commented, "I thought that it was an interesting place to explore, especially as it was free of charge."

TEDDY BEAR QUOTE OF THE WEEK

A quote by Helen Exley,

" A Bear teaches us that if the heart it true, it doesn't matter much if an ear drops off."

TADLEY BEAR'S FIRST AID FIASCO

Tadley Bear spent some time today practising his first aid skills. Unfortunately, he had to practice on himself, as no one would volunteer to be his patient. Tadley Bear says,

"All the best to Megan in her medical exams on Monday, (and all medics everywhere), and you are welcome to freely copy any of my bandaging examples shown in the photo!"

TADLEY BEAR'S BIRD SEED MYSTERY

Tadley Bear had a big surprise today. He climbed up onto the bird table and found that instead of eating the seeds put out for them, the birds seem to be growing their own lawn. What the explanation is for this strange behaviour no one knows, but Tadley Bear thinks that they are preparing for a bird table, garden makeover show. His suspicions will be confirmed if decking and a water feature appear.

TADLEY BEAR'S, WHAT NOT TO WEAR

After reading Trinny and Susannah's book, "What You Wear Can Change Your Life," Tadley Bear decided that he needed a makeover. The first thing he did was to ditch the bow. He didn't feel that it showed off his best assets, and he wanted something that flattered his shape. To do this, he went down to the St Michael's Hospice shop in Tadley, to see what they could sort him out. A nice lady in the shop helped him look for some clothes. He was very relieved that she didn't make him strip off and poke his tummy, whilst standing infront of a mirror, like he has seen on Trinny and Susanna. The nice lady found him a trendy jacket and a warm coat, scarf and mittens, and now he feels that he's the best dressed bear in town. Tadley Bear said, "I am pleased that the money for the clothes went to support a good cause."

TADLEY BEAR'S, FIRST NIGHT NERVES

Tadley Bear spends his first night in his new home. He is anxious, but also feeling rather grand in his new pyjamas. He grips his Teddy tight and is hopeful about his new life ahead.

TADLEY BEAR, NOT LEFT ON THE SHELF

Tadley Bear waits patiently by the till to have his adoption processed. For the grand sum of 50p, this bear's life has been totally transformed and his adoption finalised. Don't forget, "A bear is for life not just for Christmas!"

TADLEY BEAR, BARELY BELIEVED IT!

Today a significant event occurred. Whilst sitting in a box with all the other bears, who had been left for re homing at Annie's Charity shop in Tadley, one particular bear was chosen to be adopted into a new home. His name is Tadley Bear, and this forlorn looking bear could not believe that his day to be picked had finally arrived.
